Georg Jensen Rodate

The Georg Jensen pipe factory was founded by Per Georg Jensen and his wife in 1954, in Copenhagen, Denmark. From the 1980s onwards, the company was run by their daughter Lis and their son of the same name, Per Georg Jensen. The company produced around 2,000 pipes a year. Among their finest pipes are unique, entirely hand-made pieces. For these models, Georg Jensen used ebonite mouthpieces, whilst for factory-made models he usually used methacrylate. The pipes were commonly marked (in ascending order of quality) with: model, model number, ‘Made in Denmark’, and the GJ stamp in red and italics. The entirely handmade pipes, on the other hand, were marked with ‘Straight Grain’ and a number indicating the grade, ranging from 1 (the lowest) to 13 (the highest). The factory closed its doors in 2001.
