The initials once stood for Blumfeld's Best Briars, in honour of Louis Blumfeld, who took over the management of the Adolph Frankau Company in 1856. Following his death, BBB gradually became known as Britain's Best Briars. It would soon become the oldest English brand in current use and the first pipe to ever have a registered trademark. Britain's Best Briars, often referred to as BBB, is one of the oldest brands still in production. , dates back more than 150 years and has been one of the most popular foreign brands in Denmark for the past 50 years. Today it is owned and operated by the renowned Danish pipe and tobacco company C.B. Moller, and the pipes are still known as classic, affordable pipes of good quality. The first pipes included a diamond-shaped metal insert with the letters BBB incorporated into the top of the mouthpiece, and later they switched to a stamped logo, similar to GBD pipes.
