About us

This shop's journey into the world of pipes began three generations ago, in 1950, when Cosola Natale purchased the tobacconist's shop at 36 Via Cernaia. Although these were the early post-war years, there was already a return to life's pleasures, such as pipe smoking, and the market at that time offered the historic Savinelli and Rossi brands for Italian pipes; a few years later, some Dunhill pipes were also imported, although their real boom in Italy came towards the end of the 1960s. The demand in that decade was for pipes of reasonable quality but inexpensive.

A fundamental change took place in 1967 when Riccardo Casaro took over the management of the tobacconist's. For him, the world of pipes was a passion rather than a job. This passion was also fuelled by the ferment that animated the Italian pipe-smoking world. Brands such as Butz-Choquin, Charatan and Bauer were imported. The economic boom created the conditions for the emergence of new artisans such as Mastro de Paja, Ardor, Pierluigi and Viprati, who joined historic names such as Castello and Ascorti.

These were the years when the Casaro name made a name for itself in Turin, thanks to a business where Riccardo Casaro's fundamental rules were professionalism, competence, helpfulness and courtesy. This approach, always with a smile on his face and always available to friends and customers, soon made the shop in Via Cernaia a meeting place for passionate smokers. After a hard day's work, there was always time to stop by Casaro and have a smoke in the company of friends. Today, the Casaro tobacconist's has admirers and friends all over Italy, and this esteem is confirmed by the best manufacturers, who are well represented in the shop.

For the past twenty years, Riccardo Casaro has been joined in his passion by me, Thomas Jacobsen, his son-in-law and the creator of this presentation.

What I know today about the world of pipes and what accompanies me in my work, I owe both to our customers, who are an inexhaustible source of knowledge, but above all to Riccardo Casaro, who has been an example to me in the past and continues to be so today.

The principles of courtesy, helpfulness and professionalism are still our way of living our passion for pipes, and if you wish to visit us to browse our products, it will be an added bonus for us.
