Bay Denmark

Bay_Profile

Mike Sebastian Bay is one of Denmark's youngest and most important pipe makers. His career as a pipe maker began in 2015 when he joined Tom Eltang's team and, over time, learned the secrets of the trade from Tom. He learned Tom's distinctive rustication style and applied it to Eltang pipes under Tom's supervision. Eventually, Mike Bay was allowed to use rustication on his own pieces, as well as refine his technique over time. While Mike's work shows the influence of his mentor, it also reveals his own character and style: compact shapes with a generous dose of Danish extravagance, offered in smooth, sandblasted and rusticated finishes, often decorated with exotic materials such as bamboo, camel bone and fossilised mammoth. One of the typical features of his creations is undoubtedly the slightly forward-leaning bowls. Mike Bay pipes have ebonite and Cumberland mouthpieces and almost never have filter holes.
