Savinelli

Achille Savinelli opened his shop in Milan in 1876. Thanks to its high-quality products and friendly service, the shop was an instant success. In 1920, his son Carlo introduced Savinelli-branded pipes, which were manufactured in the Varese area. In 1948, the Savinelli pipe factory was founded in Barasso, where it is still located today. The brand quickly became prestigious worldwide and, in the 1950s and 1960s, around a thousand pipes were produced every day. The designs were inspired by classic English models, with the introduction of some variations that would become "typical" Savinelli models. Alongside these pipes, Savinelli produced the Autograph, which in turn were made entirely by hand with an imaginative design that was still recognisable as the brand. A characteristic feature of Savinelli pipes is the balsa system, a balsa wood filter that absorbs the moisture from the smoke and makes it more pleasant. The system works but is little used by smokers.
