Bacigalupi Rodate

Marco Bacigalupi was born in Genoa in 1952. He has always considered himself a woodworking hobbyist, and his first attempts with briar began in 1965 with one of his father's pipes. In the mid-1970s, he met a craftsman who gave him excellent advice. In the 1980s, he made his first plates and conducted his first experiments as a self-taught craftsman. In 1989, he was awarded a prize at the pipe-making championship held in Genoa in conjunction with the international slow smoking trophy. In 2007, he left the city to live in a small village, Gavi, surrounded by nature. In 2012, he began working full-time as a pipe maker. His predisposition is to create pipes that are pleasant to smoke, hold and look at, interpreting both classic and non-classic shapes. Thanks to his physical intuition and experimentation, he began drilling the stem lower down so that the hole is in the centre of the bowl, allowing the tobacco to be smoked right to the end. The mouthpieces are made entirely by hand from German ebonite rods. The pipes are numbered progressively and by year of production. Finally, the briar is top-quality Tuscan briar. Each year, he produces an average of 100 to 150 pipes.
