Tom Eltang saw his first pipes in a shop window at the age of six and knew that this was what he wanted to do with his life. After creating his first pipes for fun at the age of 16, he was introduced to Anne-Julie who, after seeing some of his creations, took him on as an apprentice. Julie taught Tom the harmony and balance that pipes must have and the technique of contrasting colours, concepts that would later make him famous. After three years, he moved to Dan Pipe as a repairman. This experience was very fruitful because he learned how pipes should and should not be made. In 1980, he began producing his own pipes, but only sporadically until the end of 1990. With the help of Kurt Hansen, he created the Sara Eltang line, dedicated to his daughter. Since then, the name Tom Eltang has become increasingly famous and appreciated, both by smokers and fellow craftsmen. Today, Eltang pipes are highly sought after all over the world, but given the low production volume, they are difficult to obtain. He uses horn, amber and bamboo for embellishment, but what is striking are the original lines and contrasting colours that enhance the incredible grain of his works to the maximum. Two models in particular, the Snails and the Eskimo, testify to his skill and originality. His motto is:

It is good to be a pipemaker... pipemaking is not only a job, it is a lifestyle...
