A smooth, hazelnut-coloured Eltang Basic pipe, the NEW POT POKER model – a classic straight design with a carbon fibre stem and a methacrylate mouthpiece. A one-of-a-kind piece. This is a new creation devised in Tom Eltang’s workshop, a highly original design that bears an even stronger resemblance to Popeye’s pipe. The low, wide bowl is ideal for flake tobaccos as it provides greater oxygenation, allowing you to appreciate every subtle nuance. This pipe also utilises Tom Eltang’s basic pipe design. Its originality makes it fresh and very elegant, and it is extremely practical to smoke. It is of medium size and stands out for its spacious bowl, which guarantees excellent smokeability in any situation. Its remarkable lightness makes it ideal for smoking both whilst out and about and whilst comfortably seated in an armchair. Despite having a carbon fibre stem, the pipe never produces a damp smoke. At the end of the smoke, the bowl remains dry, which also allows for two smokes in quick succession. Personally, I consider it a delightful pipe which, even with a modest bowl, allows for a leisurely smoke of 30–45 minutes. Its lightness between the teeth makes it hard to put down. The pipe features extraordinary English-style ‘Angel’s Wings’ flamed grain, with horizontal flamed lines on the sides and a dense partridge-eye pattern on the front. The Basic is available in various finishes: rusticated, sandblasted and smooth. The latter two feature distinct grain patterns which are, at times, very beautiful and dense. The rusticated version has a ‘cylinder’ finish which makes it feel cooler to the touch, although the others never get too hot in the hand either. Each pipe is strictly handmade and the quality of the briar is guaranteed by Tom Eltang. The pipe comes with a practical removable cap, which is very useful in windy conditions, such as when smoking in the mountains or by the sea.
The pipe for sale is exactly the one shown in the photos. Once sold, as it is handmade and therefore unique, the pipe will be removed from the website. The actual colour of the pipe may vary slightly from the photo, as every monitor has its own colour tone. The dimensions have been measured accurately but may vary by a millimetre, either way.
