Poul Winslow Crown smooth reddish brown pipe, classic semi-curved Dublin model with black methacrylate mouthpiece. Group 300 rating. This is a very beautiful piece, with a classic line and remarkable flaming that gives the pipe a superior class. This Danish style is the characteristic that has made Danish pipes famous, and Winslow is one of the most appreciated pipe makers. The bowl with its wide rim makes the pipe very elegant and refined. Its clean lines are highlighted by the warm, enveloping colour that further enhances the grain. The pipe is medium in size and stands out for its bowl, which is capable of excellent smoking in any situation. Its lightness makes it ideal for smoking while walking or sitting comfortably in an armchair. Although the stem is quite long, the pipe is well balanced and comfortable to hold. The Crown series are handmade pipes by Paul Winslow and his collaborators, but they do not achieve the perfection of grain that we have come to expect from classic Winslow pipes. The quality of the briar is the same, as is the care and attention with which they are made. They are an excellent way to enter and get to know the world of Winslow before moving on to his famous Free Hand pipes. Excellent value for money.
Paul Winslow learned his craft in Preben Holm's workshop, where he also worked for a short period with Per Hansen and Ulf Noltensmeier, the current owners of the Bang brand. He managed production at Preben Holm for fifteen years and in 1985 decided to start his own business. His wealth of ideas and his courage in shaping forms and using unusual colours are the factors that characterise his pipes. Combining his customers' wishes with his own ideas is a constant challenge. He currently has two employees and together they produce around 3,000 pipes a year.
