Vitale Sand Classic Dublin Black 2 Stars

Black sandblasted Vitale pipe, classic straight Dublin model with black ebonite mouthpiece. Rating: 2 stars. The pipe has a classic, essential design that makes it very elegant, with a dark, deep colour that gives it a superior class. A model inspired by Scandinavian classics, it is always current and never tiresome. Its characteristic feature is the high bowl with rim and shank, where the mouthpiece is attached at the end of the stem, giving it a very refined look. The pipe is medium/large in size and stands out for its bowl, which is capable of excellent smoking in any situation. Its lightness makes it ideal for smoking while walking or sitting comfortably in an armchair. The bowl has a beautiful, very dense flame pattern, highlighted by the fine sandblasting. The tall, deep bowl provides a dry and fresh smoke. The mouthpiece is spectacularly crafted, thin and comfortable, with a 'tooth' that is just the right height for absolute comfort when smoking. The sandblasting is done by hitting the pipe with tiny grains of silica at high pressure, which dig into the soft part of the briar, creating the distinctive pattern of the sandblasted pipe. It is the healthiest pipe because if there were any small cracks, the silica would pierce the bowl immediately. The process is long and difficult to perform but gives a stunning final result. The quality is the same as all other Vitale pipes. It is available in hazelnut, brown, black, red and natural colours. This pipe is ideal for the warmer months as it does not heat up the hand as much. It is excellent for walking, as it is less prone to scratches and marks. Piero Vitale is a young, up-and-coming craftsman who demonstrates great skill, equal to that of more experienced craftsmen. The value for money is excellent.

Piero Vitale has had a passion for woodworking since he was a child. At that time, he spent a lot of time in his grandfather's carpentry workshop, becoming increasingly familiar with the tools of the trade. He discovered the world of pipes thanks to a friend and fell in love with it after seeing the work of craftsmen such as Victor Yashtylov, Kent Rasmussen, Tom Eltang, Eder Mathias and many others. He discovered that with creativity, skill, design and engraving harmonious shapes that highlight the beauty of briar, a pipe can become something very close to a work of art. This made everything much more interesting. His annual production is a few hundred pipes. They are handmade with rasps, files, sandpaper and a small lathe that he uses only for the pipe mouthpieces, which are made from a bar of ebonite. He uses the best quality briar, aged in his workshop for about two years. Most of the briar he uses comes from Tuscany or Liguria, while the mouthpieces are made from German ebonite.
