It is also a relatively compact pipe that is easy to carry around all day, and its thick walls ensure it never gets too hot to hold. A very pleasant pipe to hold, even when unlit. This model is the classic apple shape but with a slightly flattened bowl, which keeps it ever-contemporary and never tiresome. It has a beautiful grain pattern enhanced by the fine sandblasting, which gives it an almost silky feel in the hand. The pipe is of medium size and stands out for its more than discreet bowl and excellent smokeability in any situation, whether out for a walk or comfortably seated in an armchair. The Old Antiquari series comprises pipes with minor flaws in the briar and a beautiful, regular grain. The sandblasting is achieved by striking the pipe with tiny grains of silica at high pressure, which carve into the soft part of the briar, creating the distinctive pattern of a sandblasted pipe. It is the most robust pipe, as if any small cracks were present, the silica would immediately pierce the briar. The process is long and difficult to carry out but yields a final result of great effect. The quality is the same as all other Castello pipes. It is available in hazelnut, brown, black, red and natural colours. An ideal pipe for the warmer months as it warms the hand less. Excellent for walking, given its reduced tendency to develop streaks and marks.
