A sandblasted brown Peterson Old Silver Spigot pipe with a brown/black variegated methacrylate mouthpiece, in the classic straight billiard style. Graded as Silver Spigot Sand. The pipe makes a striking visual impression thanks to its generous size. This pipe was produced in the 1980s, at a time when Peterson was manufacturing Hand-Made billiard pipes of this size; those that did not meet the required specifications were ‘demoted’ to lower-tier ranges. To craft them, Peterson started with selected briar blocks, which guaranteed quality for this sandblasted Spigot as well. The availability of these pieces was very limited. The pipe has a beautiful, fairly even traditional flame pattern, which is enhanced by the fine sandblasting, but what really stands out is undoubtedly its shape: a classic billiard of substantial size, featuring a marvellous genuine silver Spigot. It is a pipe that is a real pleasure to hold, thanks to its sandblasting, which gives it an almost silky feel to the touch. It is large in size and stands out for its generous bowl and excellent smokeability in any situation, although it is undoubtedly at its best when you are comfortably seated in an armchair. The sandblasted Spigot series is characterised by a warm brown colour and a fine double silver ferrule. The briar always had a beautiful grain pattern that was enhanced by its flamed finish. This series has been hugely successful, thanks in part to the top-quality extra briar and the short break-in period. The classic methacrylate mouthpiece is highly regarded. Its value for money was truly excellent. The pipe was produced in the 1980s during what is known as the ‘Republic Era’. The pipe is not an ‘unsmoked’ summer pipe as it has always been stored in our warehouse.
The pipe for sale is exactly as shown in the photos. Once sold, as it is handmade and therefore unique, the pipe will be removed from the website. The actual colour of the pipe may vary slightly from the photo, as every monitor displays colours differently. The dimensions have been measured accurately but may vary by up to one millimetre, either way.
