Castello Old Antiquari pipe, sandblasted black with a black methacrylate mouthpiece, classic curved bottle-shaped model 11. Grade 2 K. The Castello embodies the finest Italian craftsmanship, appreciated worldwide for its attention to detail and unrivalled style. The defining feature of this model is the very narrow curve of the shank, which gives it a very elegant and jaunty appearance. Its short length places it among the pipes known as ‘nose-burners’. The pipe is of medium size and is distinguished by a generous bowl and excellent smokeability in any situation, whether out for a walk or comfortably seated in an armchair. The Old Antiquari series comprises pipes with minor flaws in the briar and a beautiful, regular grain. The sandblasting is achieved by striking the pipe with tiny grains of silica at high pressure, which carve into the soft part of the briar, creating the distinctive pattern of a sandblasted pipe. It is the soundest pipe, as if any small cracks were through-going, the silica would pierce the briar immediately. The process is long and difficult to carry out but yields a final result of great effect. The quality is the same as all other Castello pipes. It is available in hazelnut, brown, black, red and natural colours. An ideal pipe for the warmer months as it warms the hand less. Excellent for walking, given its reduced tendency to develop streaks and marks.
