A well-broken-in, smooth-finished brown James Upshall Tilshead pipe with a black ebonite mouthpiece, in the classic straight Dublin style. Graded P. The pipe makes a striking visual impression thanks to its generous and unusual size. Its bowl is a veritable firebox with a substantial diameter; given the skill required to handle it, it is recommended for experienced smokers. In addition to its size, the pipe stands out for its clean, simple lines, which elevate it to a higher level. It has fabulous traditional-cut flamed grain with regular, dense veining across the bowl, which fades slightly in just one spot, yet the wood’s pattern remains remarkable. The pipe bears the logo on the side of the mouthpiece, dating its production to before 1983/84, thus placing it firmly within Upshall’s absolute golden years. An extraordinary piece in excellent condition with beautiful grain that will enrich any collection. The pipe is large in size and stands out for its oversized bowl and excellent smokeability in any situation, though it is certainly at its best when you are comfortably seated in an armchair. It is also highly prized for its hand-crafted silver mouthpiece, which adds to its value. A colossal piece that leaves one speechless and is well worth owning. Holding it in your hand is a wonderful sensation. The pipe is second-hand, has been smoked very well but not excessively, and is in excellent condition. The pipe does not come with its original pouch or box but is supplied with a shop bag.
The second-hand pipes we deal in are only from the finest and most prestigious brands and are rigorously selected by me from private collections. The pipes in question must have been well cared for and smoked; generally, they have been smoked sparingly and are sanitised before being put up for sale. In fact, once selected, they are disinfected and the interior sterilised; the mouthpiece is cleaned and the entire pipe polished, including the bowl and mouthpiece. Casaropipe guarantees that at this stage they are ready to continue bringing satisfaction to a new enthusiast.
The pipe for sale is exactly the one shown in the photos. Once sold, as it is handmade and therefore unique, the pipe will be removed from the website. The actual colour of the pipe may vary slightly from the photo as every monitor has its own colour tone. The dimensions have been measured accurately but may vary by a millimetre, either way.
