Black rusticated Eltang Basic pipe, unique classic straight poker model with carbon fibre stem and methacrylate mouthpiece. Unique rating. It is original and represents Tom Eltang's basic pipe concept. Its originality makes it fresh and very elegant, and it is extremely practical to smoke. It is medium in size and stands out for its discreet bowl, which guarantees excellent smokeability in any situation. Its remarkable lightness makes it ideal for smoking both while walking and sitting comfortably in an armchair. Despite having a carbon fibre stem, the pipe never produces damp smoke. At the end of the smoke, the bowl remains dry, which also allows for two quick smokes. Personally, I find it an adorable pipe which, even with a small bowl, allows you to smoke comfortably for 30-45 minutes. Its lightness between the teeth makes it difficult to put down. The Basic is available in various finishes: rusticated, sandblasted and smooth. The latter two have a flame pattern which is sometimes very beautiful and dense. The rusticated finish has a 'cylinder' texture, which makes it cooler, although the others never get too hot to hold. The quality of the briar is guaranteed by Tom Eltang and they are all handmade. The pipe comes with a practical removable lid, which is very useful in windy conditions, such as when smoking in the mountains or at the seaside.
Tom Eltang saw his first pipes in a shop window at the age of 6 and realised that this was what he wanted to do in life. After creating his first pipes for fun at the age of 16, he was introduced to Anne-Julie who, after seeing some of his creations, took him on as an apprentice. Julie taught Tom the harmony and balance that pipes must have and the technique of contrasting colours, notions that would later make him famous. After three years, he moved to Dan Pipe as a repairman. This experience was very fruitful because he learned how pipes should and should not be made. In 1980, he began producing his own pipes, but only sporadically until the end of 1990. With the help of Kurt Hansen, he created the Sara Eltang line, dedicated to his daughter. Since then, the name Tom Eltang has become increasingly famous and appreciated, both by smokers and fellow craftsmen. Today, Eltang pipes are highly sought after all over the world, but given the low production, they are difficult to obtain. He uses horn, amber and bamboo as embellishments, but what is striking are the original lines and contrasting colours that enhance the incredible grain of his works to the maximum. Two models in particular, the Snail and the Eskimo, testify to his skill and originality.
