Charatan Special pipe, smooth brown finish, classic Dublin straight model with black ebonite mouthpiece. Special group rating. The pipe is an ORIGINAL Charatan, produced before the 1980s. The pipe is very elegant, with a classic line that gives it a superior class. The pipe is medium in size and stands out for its more than capable bowl, which provides excellent smokeability in any situation. Its lightness makes it ideal for smoking while walking or sitting comfortably in an armchair. The pipe has a beautiful flame pattern, although it is not uniform across the entire bowl. On one side, it has the classic Lane logo, which certainly makes it valuable. The pipes on this site were all produced before 1978, some as far back as the 1960s. The pipe is used, well smoked and mainly with natural tobaccos or English mixtures. Rating 9 out of 10. The pipe does not have its original bag or box
Frederick Charatan began producing meerschaum pipes in 1863 and was an immediate success. This led him to start producing briar pipes, which brought him worldwide fame. Charatan was the first to create pipes entirely by hand from a block of briar, including the mouthpiece. This distinguished him from all the others who turned the bowl and used pre-moulded mouthpieces. As the leading English manufacturer, from 1908 to 1910, Dunhill purchased his pipes at an exorbitant price to resell them in its own shop. This was because Charatan was considered the undisputed number one. Ruben Charatan succeeded his father in 1910 and later, in 1963 or 64, the company passed to Herman G. Lane, with whom he had collaborated for years as a distributor for the United States. In 1978, Charatan finally came under the control of Dunhill, which closed the Prescot Street factory four years later. From then on, the brand's fame and prestige began to decline
The pipes we sell second-hand are only from the best and most prestigious brands and are rigorously selected by me from private collections. The pipes in question must have been well cared for and smoked, generally having been smoked very little, and are sanitised before being put up for sale. Once selected, they are disinfected and the interior sterilised, the mouthpiece is cleaned and the entire pipe polished, including the bowl and mouthpiece. Casaropipe guarantees that at this point they are ready to continue to give pleasure to a new enthusiast

The pipe for sale is exactly the one shown in the photos. Once sold, as it is handmade and therefore unique, the pipe will be removed from the website. The actual colour of the pipe may vary slightly from the photo as each monitor has its own colour tone. The dimensions have been measured accurately but may vary by a millimetre, either more or less
