Charatan Executive Fancy Dublin 4 Lane Rodata

Smooth brown Charatan Executive pipe, straight fancy Dublin model with black double comfort ebonite mouthpiece. Executive group rating 4. The pipe is an ORIGINAL Charatan, produced before the 1980s. The pipe is very original with its unconventional lines that make it unique and have a great visual impact due to its considerable size. Its characteristic feature is the Dublin bowl with a finely crafted top, which gives it a great visual impact. Its bowl fills every hand, giving great satisfaction. The model was also called elephant foot. A wonderful piece that is worth owning, also for its thick walls that never heat up the hand. The pipe is large and stands out for its exaggerated bowl, which provides excellent smokeability in any situation. Its lightness is not record-breaking, making it ideal for smoking while sitting comfortably in an armchair. It has a fabulous traditional cut flame pattern across the entire bowl with the heart of the pattern perfectly centred. On the rim, there is a fine, dense bird's eye pattern. The pipe is also very practical as it can be set down without falling over. The pipe has the prestigious Lane symbol printed on the side. The Executive series is one of Charatan's most prestigious, second only to the Selected and Supreme series. The flaming is always present and very beautiful but rarely exceptional. The pipe is used, smoked well and no more than three times, and is almost as good as new, mainly with natural tobaccos or English mixtures. Rating 9 out of 10. The pipe has no original bag or box. The pipe has two small marks on the edge of the bowl, but these do not detract from its beauty.

PLEASE NOTE: the pipe is priced lower than it should be, which for an Executive 4 should be at least €515. This decision was made to attract smokers who do not own a high-end Charatan and to allow them to discover this brand that has contributed to the history of pipe smoking.

Frederick Charatan began producing meerschaum pipes in 1863 and was an immediate success. This led him to start producing briar pipes, which brought him worldwide fame. Charatan was the first to create pipes entirely by hand from a block of briar, including the mouthpiece. This distinguished him from all the others who turned the bowl and used pre-moulded mouthpieces. As the leading English manufacturer, from 1908 to 1910, Dunhill purchased his pipes at an exorbitant price to resell them in its own shop. This was because Charatan was considered the undisputed number one. Ruben Charatan succeeded his father in 1910 and later, in 1963 or 64, the company passed to Herman G. Lane, with whom he had collaborated for years as a distributor for the United States. In 1978, Charatan finally came under the control of Dunhill, which closed the Prescot Street factory four years later. From here began the decline of the brand's fame and prestige.

The pipes we sell second-hand are only from the best and most prestigious brands and are rigorously selected by me from private collections. The pipes in question must have been well cared for and smoked, generally having been smoked very little, and are sanitised before being put up for sale. Once selected, they are disinfected and the interior sterilised, the mouthpiece is sanded and the entire pipe polished, including the bowl and mouthpiece. Casaropipe guarantees that at this point they are ready to continue to give pleasure to a new enthusiast.
